Character skin work that I completed while working on the FTP shooter XDefiant.

For completing texture work on this skin a reasonably sufficient in detail concept art was provided by my lead Takahashi-san which required me to create a few unique from scratch surface materials in substance which were eventually borrowed and repurposed for other characters which also received this same skin line treatment as well as a reflective hazard tape like surface shader coupled with emissive channel displacement for the glowing "oni" eyes in order to complete the look. The overall look with teeth etched into the face mask are reminiscent of Japanese samurai armor colorized close to that of a Tengu style mask (often always red) hence the term "aka" (赤) for red while it bears its sharp golden teeth which are traits more associated with "oni" (鬼) or devil in appearance. Past the mask the next major feature in line with nature and the supernatural innate abilities of animalistic deities (such as those found in Shintoism) comes the appearance of the forever transitioning digital hexagon snake skin camouflage (see video to observe the undulation tech art effect). The rest of the costume continues on to feature various well known Wagara (和柄) or Japanese traditional print patterns which though placed on armor and protective gear here are the same kinds of stitching's and print we can find in tapestries and kimonos dating back to medieval Japanese history. Initially the red flame surface details were implemented like hazard reflectors. During the development I moved on to other projects at other organizations while the final in game version of this Legendary skin was polished up with embroidery created by my co-worker Wang and supported in the end by the texture motion enabled undulating camouflaged effect as soon as more tech art staff could finally become available on character assets.
