XDefiant Pre-Season Battle Pass contents
Character skin work that I completed while working on the FTP shooter XDefiant. After being given a concept with material reference call outs from my lead I began this skin first by first creating my own three layered substance painter material which would allow for creating the illusion of multiple layers of damageable fire retardant clothing plus one gradient enabled burning ember emissive hot spot layer. The semi procedural material simply needed a singular parent layer mask as an input to dictate which layers below would receive the torn underneath layer vs the fully ignited and lit with burning embers layers. All edits were created in a non destructible fashion over top of the costume's main fire fighter like clothing layout. Lastly for keeping consistent with previous skins I developed, I reused my Fresnel-based reflective emissive surface shader once again to fake the look of reflective hazard tape over certain areas of the texture. Later on after tech art could come fully onboard for character advancement a burning ember sprite and heat wave effect was added to compliment the skins final look and feel.
